- Add a sword or treasure β a cutlass (curved sword) in his belt, or a treasure map or coin in his hand.
- Draw the legs β sturdy legs with big boots, or a wooden peg leg for an extra-piratey look.
- Colour β red and white stripes, a brown coat, black hat and boots, with a touch of gold for treasure.
π Did You Give It a Go?
Real pirates of the 'Golden Age of Piracy' (around 300 years ago) did sometimes wear eye patches β but one theory says it wasn't always because they'd lost an eye! Some historians think pirates wore a patch to keep one eye used to the dark, so they could see instantly when going below deck into the dark hold of the ship. Pirates also used flags called 'Jolly Rogers' (often with a skull and crossbones) to scare other ships.
