How to Draw Captain America: Step-by-Step for Kids

Captain America is one of Marvel's greatest heroes — his iconic shield and winged helmet make him easy to recognise and fun to draw!

What You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper
  • Red, blue, and white markers

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Draw the Head

Draw an oval for Captain America's head. His mask fits tightly over his face, so the head shape is smooth and clean with no loose hair showing.

Step 2: Draw the Winged Helmet

Add the helmet outline over the head. On each side of the helmet, draw a small letter-A-shaped wing — these are his signature wing details. Add a large letter A in the centre of the forehead.

Step 3: Add the Face

Draw strong, determined eyes and a firm jaw. Captain America has a square, heroic chin. The mask covers the top and sides of his face; his lower face from the nose down is exposed.

Step 4: Draw the Body

Below the head, sketch a broad-shouldered athletic torso in his suit. Add the horizontal stripe detail across the chest and a small star in the centre.

Step 5: Draw the Shield Arm

On one side, draw Captain America's arm raised and holding his shield. The arm is in a punching or blocking position.

Step 6: Draw the Shield

The shield is a perfect circle. Draw four concentric rings inside it — outer red, then white, then red, then a central blue circle with a white star in the middle.

Step 7: Add Legs and Stance

Draw two powerful legs in a wide, heroic stance. Add his red boots below the blue uniform trousers.

Step 8: Final Details

Add the D-ring and strap on the shield arm, and the suit's panel lines on the torso. Erase guide lines and ink over the final outline.

Adding Colour

Use bright blue for the suit, red for the boots, gloves, and shield stripes, and white for the chest stripe and shield ring. The central shield star is white on a blue background.

  • The shield is the most important part — take your time making the circle neat and the rings even.
  • Cap's stance should look confident and powerful, not stiff — lean him slightly forward.
  • The A on the helmet forehead is small — don't make it too big or it will look out of proportion.
