How to Draw Captain America's Shield: Step-by-Step for Kids
Even if you just want to draw Captain America's legendary shield, this guide will walk you through the iconic circular design that has stopped bullets and inspired millions of fans!
What You'll Need
- Pencil
- Compass or round object to trace
- Eraser
- Paper
- Red, blue, and white markers
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Draw the Outer Circle
Use a compass or trace around a round object to draw a large perfect circle. This is the outer edge of the vibranium shield.
Step 2: Draw Three Inner Rings
Inside the first circle, draw three more concentric circles — each one smaller than the last, spaced roughly evenly apart. You now have four rings total.
Step 3: Add the Centre Circle
Draw a final small circle in the very centre. This will be the blue section with the white star.
Step 4: Draw the Star
In the centre circle, draw a five-pointed star. Start with a small dot in the middle, then draw five points evenly spaced around it. Connect the points to form the star shape.
Step 5: Add Depth Lines
To make the shield look three-dimensional, add subtle curved shade lines on one side of each ring — following the curve of the circles.
Step 6: Draw the Handle Straps (Back View)
If drawing from the back, add two parallel strap shapes across the inside of the shield — one for the forearm and one to grip.
Step 7: Add Battle Damage (Optional)
For a battle-worn look, add a few small scratch marks or dents across the surface — short diagonal lines that suggest the shield has been in action.
Step 8: Ink and Clean Up
Go over all circles and lines with a clean outline. Erase all pencil marks. The cleaner the circles, the better the shield will look.
Adding Colour
Ring 1 (outer): red. Ring 2: white. Ring 3: red. Ring 4 (innermost before centre): blue. Centre star: white. This is the exact pattern of Cap's shield.
Tips from Parikshet
- A compass makes perfect circles — borrow one if you can. Or trace a coin, cup, or bowl for each ring size.
- The five-pointed star is tricky — draw it lightly in pencil first before inking.
- Even a simple shield drawn flat looks great when the colours are right!
