How to Draw a Fidget Spinner: Step-by-Step for Kids

Fidget spinners were one of the biggest toy crazes — and they make a great drawing subject because of their cool geometric shape!

What You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Compass
  • Ruler
  • Eraser
  • Paper
  • Coloured markers

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Draw the Central Circle

Draw a medium circle in the centre of your paper. This is the bearing — the part you hold while the spinner spins around it. Draw a smaller circle inside it for the inner bearing ring.

Step 2: Mark Three Equal Points

Around the central circle, mark three equally spaced points — at roughly the 12 o'clock, 4 o'clock, and 8 o'clock positions (120 degrees apart). These are where the three lobes will be.

Step 3: Draw Three Oval Lobes

At each of the three marked points, draw a large rounded oval shape — like a fat teardrop or rounded pebble. These are the weighted lobes of the spinner.

Step 4: Connect the Lobes to the Centre

Draw curved connecting lines from each side of the central circle blending smoothly into the sides of each lobe. The transitions should be smooth, not angular.

Step 5: Add the Bearing Circles in Each Lobe

Inside each of the three outer lobes, draw a small circle — these represent the ball bearings that give each lobe its weight and smooth the spin.

Step 6: Add Shine and Highlights

Draw curved highlight lines on each lobe and the central bearing to show the plastic or metal surface catching light. A teardrop-shaped white highlight on each lobe works perfectly.

Step 7: Add Motion Lines

Around the outer edge of the spinner, draw curved motion lines sweeping in one direction — like speed lines in a comic book — to suggest the spinner is spinning.

Step 8: Final Clean-Up

Go over the outline with a smooth, confident pen line. Erase all pencil marks. The cleaner the lines, the more professional the spinner will look.

Adding Colour

Try a cool metallic effect: silver for the lobes with darker grey edges and bright white highlights. Alternatively, go bold with three different colours for each lobe — red, blue, and green.

Tips from Parikshet

  • The three lobes must be evenly spaced — use a ruler to check the angles are roughly 120 degrees apart.
  • Smooth curves are the key to a good spinner — no bumpy or jagged transitions between the lobes.
  • Add a colourful pattern or design inside each lobe to make your spinner unique!
