How to Draw a Mouse: Step-by-Step for Kids

Mice are small, quick, and clever — and they are one of the easiest and most satisfying animals to draw, with their big round ears and long thin tails!

What You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper
  • Grey, pink, and white markers

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Draw the Round Body

Draw a large oval for the mouse's body — round and plump. Mice are small but their bodies are rounded and compact. Tilt the oval slightly so one end is a bit higher than the other.

Step 2: Draw the Head

At the higher end of the body, draw a smaller circle for the head. Connect it to the body with a very short neck — mouse necks are barely visible.

Step 3: Add the Round Ears

On the top of the head, draw two large round circles for the ears. Mouse ears are almost perfectly circular and quite large relative to the head size. Add a smaller circle inside each ear for the pink inner ear.

Step 4: Draw the Pointed Snout

From the front of the head, draw a small pointed snout — mice have a sharp little nose. Add a tiny triangle or oval at the tip for the nose. Add a short curved line below for the mouth.

Step 5: Draw the Eyes

Draw two small round eyes — mice have small, bright bead-like eyes. Add a white highlight dot to make each eye look shiny and alive.

Step 6: Add Whiskers

From each side of the snout, draw three or four long thin whisker lines extending outward horizontally. Mouse whiskers are very long compared to their body size.

Step 7: Draw the Arms and Hands

On each side of the body, draw small stubby arms with tiny four-fingered hands. The hands can be reaching forward as if the mouse is holding a piece of cheese.

Step 8: Draw the Long Thin Tail

From the back end of the body, draw a very long, thin curved tail. The tail is nearly as long as the whole body and tapers to a fine point at the tip. Let it curve and wind around loosely.

Adding Colour

The body and outer ears are grey. The inner ear circles, nose, and palms of the hands are pink. The underbelly can be a lighter grey or white. The eyes are black with white highlights. The whiskers are white or light grey.

Tips from Parikshet

  • The round ears are the most important mouse feature — make them genuinely circular and large.
  • The tail should be at least as long as the entire body — a short tail looks more like a hamster!
  • Draw the mouse holding a large piece of Swiss cheese to create a fun, classic scene.
