How to Draw a Baby Boy: Easy Step-by-Step for Kids

Baby boys are round, chubby, and utterly adorable to draw! Here is how to draw a cute cartoon baby boy with big eyes and a happy expression.

What You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper
  • Skin tone, blue, and pastel markers

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Draw the Giant Round Head

Draw a very large circle for the baby's head — in babies, the head is enormous compared to the body. Make the head take up about half of the total drawing height.

Step 2: Add Big Cute Eyes

Draw two very large oval eyes in the lower half of the face. Baby eyes appear huge because the eyes are nearly full-sized at birth while the rest of the face is still tiny. Add big round pupils and white highlight dots.

Step 3: Draw the Tiny Nose and Smile

Add just a small dot or tiny button shape for the nose — keep it very small to emphasise the huge eyes. Draw a small curved smile below. Add rosy blush circles on both cheeks.

Step 4: Draw Wispy Baby Hair

On top of the big head, draw just a few wispy hair strokes — newborns have very little hair. A small curl or tuft works perfectly. You can also add a little bow or headband.

Step 5: Draw the Small Round Body

Below the head, draw a tiny, round, chubby body — much smaller than the head. Baby bodies are compact and plump with no waist definition. Add a rounded belly.

Step 6: Draw the Chubby Arms

Add two short, fat arms on each side of the body. Baby arms are very round and have no sharp angles — everything is soft rolls. Draw tiny fists or open hands.

Step 7: Draw the Short Legs

Below the body, draw two short chubby legs. Babies have very fat thighs and short lower legs. Add tiny socked feet — draw the socks as rounded shapes with a cuff line at the ankle.

Step 8: Add Clothing Details

Draw a simple onesie or romper on the baby — add a collar detail, a few snap buttons at the bottom, and a fun pattern (stars, hearts, or stripes) on the fabric.

Adding Colour

Use a soft peach, warm tan, or brown skin tone. Blue, green, or yellow for the baby's clothing. Pastel colours work best for babies. Add a light pink blush on each cheek and nose tip.

Tips from Parikshet

  • The head MUST be much bigger than the body — this is the single most important rule for drawing babies convincingly.
  • Every shape should be round and soft — no sharp angles or edges anywhere on a baby drawing.
  • Big shiny eyes with large highlight dots make the baby look alive and expressive — never skip the highlights!
