How to Draw Starfire: Step-by-Step for Kids

Starfire from Teen Titans is a Tamaranean princess with incredible energy powers, flowing red hair, and an always-positive attitude. Here is how to draw her!

What You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper
  • Purple, green, and orange markers

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Draw the Head

Draw an oval for Starfire's head. She has a heart-shaped face with high cheekbones and a slightly pointed chin. Leave space on all sides for her enormous flowing hair.

Step 2: Add the Large Glowing Eyes

Draw two large oval eyes that glow bright green when she uses her powers. Even at rest, her eyes are distinctive — bright green or olive coloured with a slightly alien quality. Add small curved lashes on the upper lids.

Step 3: Draw the Nose and Smile

Add a small, refined nose and a bright, enthusiastic smile — Starfire is almost always happy and excited. Her expression is open and expressive.

Step 4: Draw the Long Red Hair

Starfire's hair is her most dramatic visual feature — very long, flowing, and a vivid dark auburn-red. Draw it flowing out behind and below her, with big wavy sections. It should extend well below the body line.

Step 5: Draw the Body

Below the head, draw a tall, athletic body in Starfire's signature purple costume. The costume is a purple crop top with a metallic gem clasp in the centre, a short purple miniskirt, and a purple-and-metal sleeve on one arm.

Step 6: Add the Armour Details

Starfire wears Tamaranean metal armour accents — a metallic shoulder plate, gauntlets on her forearms, and metal boot pieces. Draw these as silver-grey curved plates layered over the purple costume.

Step 7: Draw the Flying Pose

Draw Starfire in a flying pose — arms slightly extended, legs trailing behind, hair streaming upward and back from the speed of flight. Energy green light can glow around her hands and eyes.

Step 8: Add Energy Blasts

From her hands, draw Starfire energy bolts — jagged star-shaped bursts of glowing green energy, her signature Starbolts attack.

Adding Colour

The costume is deep purple. Metallic accents are silver with gold trim. The skin has a warm slightly orange tone (Tamaraneans have golden-orange skin). Hair is deep auburn red. The eyes and energy blasts are bright acid green.

Tips from Parikshet

  • The enormous flowing red hair streaming behind her in flight is Starfire's most iconic visual — make it big, wavy, and dramatic.
  • Green glowing eyes are a signature Starfire detail even when she is not using her powers — always use green for her eyes.
  • Her positive, enthusiastic expression is as important as her costume — Starfire is always smiling!
