Kakashi Hatake — the cool, masked ninja sensei from Naruto — is one of the most popular anime characters to draw. With his spiky silver hair, face mask, forehead protector tilted over one eye, and relaxed confidence, Kakashi is a brilliant anime drawing subject. Part of the 6-minute 100 Days Sketching Challenge.
🖍️ What You Need
- Pencil and eraser
- Grey or silver marker for the hair
- Dark blue for the mask and headband
- Black pen for outlines
- Skin-tone for the visible skin
How to Draw Kakashi Step by Step
- Draw the head shape — a rounded anime head tapering to a slightly pointed chin.
- Place the eye guideline low — about 60% down the face, as with all anime characters.
- Draw the spiky silver hair — Kakashi's hair is his signature: gravity-defying silver-grey spikes that all sweep to one side. Draw bold pointed clumps leaning left or right.
- Add the slanted forehead protector — his ninja headband is tilted down to cover his LEFT eye (the viewer's right). Draw the metal plate with the Hidden Leaf swirl-leaf symbol.
- Draw the one visible eye — only his right eye shows (the other is under the headband). Give it a calm, relaxed, half-lidded expression — Kakashi always looks cool and unbothered.
- Add the face mask — Kakashi's dark face mask covers everything below his eyes — nose, mouth, and chin. This is a key feature; his full face is almost never shown.
- Draw the body — his ninja outfit: a dark high-collared top with a green flak vest (the Hidden Leaf jonin vest).
- Colour — silver-grey hair, dark blue mask and top, green vest, the metal headband plate.
🌟 Did You Know?
Kakashi Hatake is one of the most popular characters in all of Naruto, despite — or because of — the fact that his full face is almost never shown. For years, fans were desperate to see what was under his mask, and the show turned this into a running joke, with characters constantly failing to catch a glimpse. His hidden left eye conceals a special power called the Sharingan.
Kakashi's Signature Features
- Swept silver spiky hair — leaning to one side
- Headband over one eye — covering his left eye
- Face mask — hiding everything below his eyes
- One visible relaxed eye — calm and cool

- Position Kakashi behind the three students as their mentor.

Who is Kakashi Hatake?
Kakashi Hatake is a popular character from the anime and manga Naruto — a skilled, cool, and laid-back ninja who serves as the sensei (teacher) of the main team. He is known for his masked face, silver spiky hair, headband tilted over one eye, and his calm, confident personality.
Why does Kakashi wear a mask over his face?
Kakashi's face mask covers everything below his eyes, and his full face is almost never revealed in the series. This became a famous running joke, with fans and characters alike desperate to see underneath. The mystery is part of his cool, enigmatic character. He also covers his left eye, which hides a special power.
How do I draw Kakashi's hair?
Kakashi's hair is silver-grey and drawn as bold, gravity-defying spikes that all sweep to one side (usually leaning left). Draw the spikes as chunky pointed clumps rather than individual strands. The strong sideways lean of the spiky silver hair is one of his most recognisable features.
Why does Kakashi only show one eye?
Kakashi keeps his ninja headband tilted down to cover his left eye, so only his right eye is visible most of the time. The hidden left eye conceals a special ability called the Sharingan. When drawing him, you only ever draw one visible eye, which adds to his mysterious, cool appearance.
