This episode of the 100 Days Sketching Challenge builds a cheerful scene — a boy holding balloons on the ground while kites fly in the sky. Combining a figure, balloons, and kites teaches composition: how to arrange several elements into one happy picture. Parikshet shows you how step by step.

🖍️ What You Need

  • Pencil and eraser
  • Bright markers for the balloons and kites
  • Skin-tone and coloured markers for the boy
  • Black pen for outlines and strings

How to Draw a Boy with Balloons and Kites

  1. Draw the boy — a simple figure standing and looking up, with a happy face and an arm raised holding balloon strings.
  2. Add the boy's clothes — a t-shirt and shorts, and a cheerful expression.
  3. Draw the balloons — three or four oval balloons floating above his raised hand, each with a small knot and a string leading down to his hand.
  4. Add the ground — a curved ground line beneath the boy with some grass.
  5. Draw the kites in the sky — diamond-shaped kites high above, each with a crossed frame and a wavy tail of little bows.
  6. Add kite strings — long curving lines from the kites down toward the ground.
  7. Add sky details — a sun, a few clouds, and maybe a bird.
  8. Colour — bright balloons and kites against a blue sky, green ground, colourful clothes.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: This scene is about composition — spreading elements across the page at different heights. Put the boy low (on the ground), the balloons mid-height, and the kites high in the sky. This use of high, middle, and low creates depth and makes the picture feel full and balanced.

🌟 Did You Know?

Kites were invented in China over 2,000 years ago, originally made from silk and bamboo! They were used not just for fun but for measuring distances, testing the wind, and even sending signals in wars. Today, kite festivals are held around the world, and some giant show-kites are bigger than a car. The diamond kite most kids draw is just one of hundreds of kite shapes.

Building a Scene: High, Middle, Low

  • Low — the boy on the ground and the grass
  • Middle — the floating balloons
  • High — the kites in the sky
  • Spread elements — at different heights for depth

🎯 Try This: Draw a Park Day Scene

  1. Draw your boy with balloons and kites.
  2. Add more children flying kites or playing.
  3. Draw trees, a picnic blanket, and a dog.
  4. Fill the sky with kites of different shapes and colours.
