The 3D letter B uses simple parallel projection — adding depth lines to a flat letter — to create an immediately impressive dimensional effect. It is a great technique for posters, name signs, and card lettering.

🖍️ What You Need

  • Pencil and eraser
  • Ruler
  • Black pen
  • Grey or shadow-colour marker
  • White paper

How to Draw 3D Letter B Step by Step

  1. Draw the letter B flat — a bold, thick-stroked letter B. Make the strokes wide enough to show the 3D depth.
  2. Choose a vanishing direction — decide where the depth goes: upper right is the most common choice for a 3D letter.
  3. From every visible corner, draw parallel lines — all going in the same direction and the same length (about 0.5-1cm).
  4. Connect the endpoints — join the ends of the parallel lines to form the back faces of the letter.
  5. Determine which faces are visible — the top face, right face, or bottom face will be visible depending on your vanishing direction. Shade or erase the hidden faces.
  6. Shade the side faces — shade the faces going into the depth darker than the front face. This creates the dimensional illusion.
  7. Add a cast shadow — a shadow extending from the bottom of the letter reinforces the 3D effect.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: All depth lines must go in exactly the same direction and be exactly the same length — use a ruler. Any deviation and the letter looks warped rather than three-dimensional. Consistency is everything.
