How to Draw a Banana: Step-by-Step for Kids
A banana is a long curved shape with a little stem at one end and a dark tip at the other. Three curved lines are all you need for the body.
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White drawing paper
- Black marker for the outline
- Yellow, brown and green pencils
- Coloured pencils or crayons
Step-by-Step: Drawing a Banana
Step 1: Draw the curve
Draw a long, thin crescent, like a smile turned sideways. This is the outside edge of the banana.
Step 2: Add thickness
Draw a second curved line beside the first one so the two lines meet at both ends. The banana should be fatter in the middle.
Step 3: Draw the stem
At the top end, draw a short, thick rectangle with a flat cut end. It bends slightly, just like the banana.
Step 4: Add the tip
At the bottom end, draw a small dark rounded tip.
Step 5: Draw the ridges
Draw two long curved lines that follow the length of the banana. These show the ridges where the peel folds.
Step 6: Add brown spots
Dot small brown speckles here and there. Real ripe bananas are covered in them.
Step 7: Give it a face (optional)
Add two dots for eyes and a curved smile on the widest part for a happy banana.
Step 8: Outline and erase
Trace with a marker, then erase the guide lines.
Colouring Your Banana
Colour it bright yellow, with a slightly greener stem and a dark brown tip. Use light brown for the speckles and lightly shade along the ridges.
Tips for Drawing a Banana
- Keep both curves smooth and swooping. If they wobble, the banana looks like a pickle.
- Draw a small white highlight on the top to make it look shiny.
