Why is a baby turtle easy to draw?
Its body is mostly a rounded dome for the shell plus four small legs and a head. The shell pattern is just simple repeating shapes.
How do you draw a turtle shell pattern?
Draw a hexagon in the centre of the shell, then add more shapes around it like a honeycomb. Real turtle shells have around 13 plates called scutes.
What colours should I use for a turtle?
Most turtles are green and brown, sometimes with a yellow belly. Sea turtles can also have lovely olive and golden patterns.
Can a turtle leave its shell?
No — the shell is part of the turtle's skeleton, with its ribs and spine fused into it, so a turtle can never crawl out of its shell.
