An auto rickshaw (also called a tuk-tuk) is a three-wheeled taxi seen all over India and Asia. It is fun to draw because of its rounded cabin, single front wheel and open sides. This step-by-step tutorial shows you how to draw an easy auto rickshaw.

🖍️ What You Need

  • White paper
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Black fine-liner
  • Yellow, green and black colouring pencils

How to Draw an Auto Rickshaw Step by Step

  1. Draw a large rounded dome shape for the passenger cabin in the middle of the page.
  2. Add a curved front section that slopes down to a point where the driver sits.
  3. Draw a big back wheel and another back wheel behind it, then one smaller front wheel at the pointed front.
  4. Add the open side opening where passengers climb in.
  5. Draw the driver's handlebar and a small headlight at the front.
  6. Add a seat inside and a little number plate at the back.
  7. Outline everything in black and rub out the pencil.
  8. Colour the bottom half yellow or green and the roof black, the classic auto rickshaw colours.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: Remember an auto rickshaw has THREE wheels, not four — one at the front and two at the back. Getting the three-wheel layout right is what makes it an auto rickshaw and not a car.

🌟 Did You Know?

Auto rickshaws run on tiny engines and are one of the most common ways to travel short distances in India. In many cities they are painted green and yellow because they run on cleaner CNG (compressed natural gas) fuel.

Other Vehicles to Draw Next

  • A yellow taxi car.
  • A double-decker bus.
  • A motorbike with two wheels.
  • A bicycle rickshaw with a pedalling driver.
