Pikachu is the most famous Pokémon of all, and this electric yellow mouse is easy to draw thanks to its round head, long pointy ears and lightning-bolt tail. This step-by-step tutorial shows you how to draw a cute, beginner-friendly Pikachu.

🖍️ What You Need

  • White paper
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Black fine-liner
  • Yellow, red and brown colouring pencils

How to Draw Pikachu Step by Step

  1. Draw a slightly squashed circle for Pikachu's head.
  2. Add two long pointed ears on top, like rabbit ears.
  3. Draw two big round eyes with a shine dot, a tiny nose and a wide open smile.
  4. Add two round rosy cheeks — these are where Pikachu stores electricity.
  5. Below the head draw a small rounded body with short arms and legs.
  6. Draw the famous lightning-bolt zig-zag tail behind the body.
  7. Outline everything in black and rub out pencil marks.
  8. Colour Pikachu yellow, the cheeks red, and the ear tips and back stripes brown.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: Keep Pikachu's eyes big and place a small white shine dot in each one. Large shiny eyes are the trick that makes any Pokémon look cute and full of life.

🌟 Did You Know?

Pikachu's name comes from two Japanese sounds: 'pika', the sound of a sparkle or electric spark, and 'chu', the squeak a mouse makes. So Pikachu literally means 'sparkle-squeak'!
