How to Draw a School: Step-by-Step for Kids

A school building has a wide front, rows of windows, a big central door and often a flag on top. Draw the box first and add the details.

What You'll Need

  • Pencil (HB or 2B)
  • Eraser
  • White drawing paper
  • Black marker for the outline
  • Red, yellow and blue colours
  • Coloured pencils or crayons

Step-by-Step: Drawing a School

Step 1: Draw the main building

Draw a wide rectangle for the front of the school.

Step 2: Add the roof

On top, draw a low triangle or a flat roof line.

Step 3: Draw the entrance

In the middle, draw a tall rectangle for the door. Add a small roof over it and a few steps at the bottom.

Step 4: Add the windows

On each side of the door, draw two rows of squares for the windows.

Step 5: Add the clock or bell tower

Above the door, draw a small tower with a circle for a clock.

Step 6: Add the flagpole

On the roof, draw a thin pole with a small flag.

Step 7: Add the playground

In front, draw a fence, a tree and a few children as simple stick figures.

Step 8: Outline and erase

Trace with a marker and erase the pencil.

Colouring Your School

Use red brick or yellow for the walls, blue for the windows and a bright colour for the door. Colour the flag with your school colours, and the grass green.

Tips for Drawing a School

  • Use a ruler for the windows so the rows are straight.
  • Draw the door bigger than the windows. It is the main feature of the building.
