This guide takes a 3D angled view of Thor's hammer, Mjolnir — showing the cube-like head from a corner so you can see two faces at once, which makes it look solid and powerful. A great way to practise drawing a 3D block. Parikshet shows you how step by step.
🖍️ What You Need
- Pencil and eraser
- Ruler
- Grey and silver markers
- Brown for the handle
- Black pen for outlines
How to Draw Thor's Hammer in 3D Step by Step
- Draw the front face of the head — a rectangle for the front of the hammer head.
- Add the depth — from the corners, draw short parallel lines going back at an angle (use a ruler), then connect them to make the top and side faces. Now the head looks like a solid 3D block.
- Shape the forged edges — angle the top and bottom slightly inward so it looks like heavy forged metal.
- Add the handle — a 3D handle (two close parallel lines) coming down from the centre of the head's underside.
- Wrap the handle — criss-cross leather wrapping down the grip, with a loop at the bottom.
- Shade the three faces — the front face lightest, the top medium, the side darkest, so the head looks truly three-dimensional.
- Add rune engravings and shine — magical markings on the front face and bright highlight streaks.
- Colour — grey-silver metal with three tones of shading, brown wrapped handle.
🌟 Did You Know?
In the Marvel films, the prop of Thor's hammer used by actors actually looks heavy and solid, but it's made of lightweight materials so the actors can swing it easily! In the story, though, Mjolnir is incredibly dense and heavy — so heavy that an unworthy person can't lift it at all, yet it becomes light as a feather for Thor, who is worthy to wield it.
Drawing a 3D Hammer Head
- Three visible faces — front, top, and one side
- Three shading tones — light front, medium top, dark side
- Forged edges — angled slightly inward for a heavy look
- 3D handle — two parallel lines with wrapping
🎯 Try This: Draw a Whole 3D Weapon Set
- Draw Thor's hammer in 3D using this guide.
- Add Captain America's shield (a 3D disc at an angle).
- Add a 3D sword or axe using the same block-shading method.
- Shade them all from the same light direction for a matching set.
