This Frankenstein folding surprise is a spook-tacular Halloween craft — draw Frankenstein's monster (the famous flat-headed, bolt-necked creature) that transforms when you fold the paper. It combines a classic monster drawing with a fun paper-folding reveal. Parikshet shows you how step by step.

🖍️ What You Need

  • White A4 paper
  • Pencil and ruler
  • Green, black, and grey markers
  • Coloured markers for details

How to Make the Frankenstein Folding Surprise Step by Step

  1. Mark the fold line — use a ruler to draw a light horizontal line about one-third up from the bottom of the page.
  2. Draw Frankenstein's head (upper section) — a distinctive flat-topped, square-ish green head. This flat head is the monster's signature feature.
  3. Add the face — heavy brow, sunken eyes, a flat nose, stitches across the forehead and cheek, and the famous metal bolts sticking out of each side of the neck.
  4. Add the hair — short, flat black hair across the top of the flat head.
  5. Plan the surprise on the fold-up flap — draw the transformation. Options: a friendly smiling Frankenstein becomes a scary roaring one, or his calm face becomes a goofy one when folded up.
  6. Align the transformation — position the fold-up elements (a roaring mouth, different expression) to line up when the flap folds up.
  7. Colour Frankenstein green — the classic green-grey skin, black hair, grey bolts, with stitches in dark thread.
  8. Test the fold — fold the flap up to reveal the transformation!
💡 Parikshet's Tip: Frankenstein's monster has two unmistakable signature features: the FLAT-TOPPED head and the BOLTS in the neck. Get those two right and the character reads instantly, even before the green colour. Keep the head squared and flat across the top, not rounded.

🌟 Did You Know?

The famous flat-headed, bolt-necked monster image actually comes from the 1931 film, NOT the original 1818 novel 'Frankenstein' by Mary Shelley! In the book, the creature is described very differently. Also, 'Frankenstein' is technically the name of the SCIENTIST who created the monster, Victor Frankenstein — the monster itself has no name. Mary Shelley wrote the novel when she was just 18 years old.

Frankenstein's Signature Features

  • Flat-topped square head — the #1 identifier
  • Neck bolts — metal bolts on each side of the neck
  • Stitches — across the forehead and cheeks
  • Green-grey skin — and a heavy, brooding brow
