Hello Kitty is one of the most recognisable characters in the world — and one of the simplest to draw. Her round head, signature bow, dot eyes, and famous lack of a mouth make her an ideal first character for very young artists. Parikshet shows you the whole thing in a few easy shapes.

🖍️ What You Need

  • Pencil and eraser
  • Red marker for the bow
  • Yellow for the nose
  • Black fine-tip pen for outlines and features
  • White paper

How to Draw Hello Kitty Step by Step

  1. Draw the head — a wide oval, slightly flattened, wider than it is tall. Hello Kitty's head is large and rounded.
  2. Add the ears — two pointed cat ears at the top of the head, one on each side, angled slightly outward.
  3. Draw the bow — Hello Kitty's signature accessory. On the left ear, draw a bow: two triangles meeting at a central knot circle. The bow is her most identifying feature.
  4. Add the eyes — two simple black oval dots, spaced evenly on the face. No iris, no detail — just two clean dots.
  5. Draw the nose — a small yellow oval centred between and slightly below the eyes.
  6. The whiskers — three short straight whisker lines on each side of the face. Hello Kitty has NO mouth — this is intentional and famous.
  7. Draw the body (optional) — a simple rounded body below the head, often in a dungaree or dress. Add small arms and feet.
  8. Colour — white face and body, red bow, yellow nose, classic and clean.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: Hello Kitty famously has no mouth — and this is on purpose. Do NOT add a mouth. Her creator said it lets people project their own feelings onto her: when you are happy, she looks happy; when you are sad, she seems to share it. The missing mouth is the whole point.

🌟 Did You Know?

Hello Kitty was created by the Japanese company Sanrio in 1974. Her official name is actually 'Kitty White', and according to Sanrio she is not a cat but a little girl living in London. The deliberate lack of a mouth was a design choice so that fans could imagine her sharing their own emotions — a key reason for her enduring global appeal.

The Hello Kitty Design Principles

  • Extreme simplicity — she is built from a handful of shapes anyone can draw
  • The bow — her single most identifying accessory; always on the left ear
  • No mouth — deliberate, allowing emotional projection
  • Clean symmetry — both sides of the face nearly identical

🎯 Try This: Design Hello Kitty's Outfit for Each Season

  1. Draw Hello Kitty four times.
  2. Spring: flower crown and light dress. Summer: sun hat and swimsuit.
  3. Autumn: cosy scarf. Winter: bobble hat and mittens.
  4. Change only the accessories — her face and bow stay exactly the same each time.
