How to Draw a Lighthouse: Step-by-Step for Kids
A lighthouse is a tall tapered tower with a glass room at the top that shines a beam across the sea. Draw it tall and narrow, then add the stripes and the light.
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White drawing paper
- Black marker for the outline
- Red and yellow pencils
- Blue for the sea and sky
- Coloured pencils or crayons
Step-by-Step: Drawing a Lighthouse
Step 1: Draw the tower
Draw a tall trapezoid, wider at the bottom and narrower at the top.
Step 2: Add the stripes
Across the tower, draw three curved lines, evenly spaced, to divide it into bands.
Step 3: Draw the gallery
At the top, draw a wide flat platform slightly wider than the tower. Add a short railing with little vertical lines.
Step 4: Add the lantern room
On top of the platform, draw a small rectangle with vertical lines to show the windows.
Step 5: Draw the roof
Add a small cone roof with a ball on top.
Step 6: Add the door and windows
Draw a small arched door at the bottom and two tiny windows on the tower.
Step 7: Draw the light beams
From the lantern room, draw two long triangles stretching left and right.
Step 8: Add the rocks and waves
At the base, draw rounded rocks and a few wavy lines for the sea. Outline and erase the guide lines.
Colouring Your Lighthouse
Colour alternate bands red and white. Use yellow for the light beams and the lantern room. A dark blue night sky makes the beams stand out, and the waves are blue and white.
Tips for Drawing a Lighthouse
- Draw the tower slightly narrower at the top to give it height.
- Keep the beams as straight triangles. They are light rays, so no wavy lines.
