How to Draw a Mushroom: Step-by-Step for Kids
A mushroom is a round cap on a thick stem. The spots, the lines under the cap and a little grass give it a fairy-tale look.
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White drawing paper
- Black marker for the outline
- Red, white and brown pencils
- Coloured pencils or crayons
Step-by-Step: Drawing a Mushroom
Step 1: Draw the cap
Draw a wide dome, like half a circle. The bottom edge should be a gentle curve.
Step 2: Add the underside
Under the cap, draw a curved line that follows the edge. Draw short lines from the centre out to the edge, like the spokes of an umbrella.
Step 3: Draw the stem
Below the cap, draw a thick stem that is slightly wider at the bottom, like a short vase.
Step 4: Add the ring
Around the top of the stem, draw a small ring or skirt.
Step 5: Draw the spots
On the cap, draw five or six circles of different sizes.
Step 6: Add the grass
At the bottom of the stem, draw short pointed blades of grass and a few small stones.
Step 7: Add a little mushroom
Draw a smaller mushroom beside the big one to make a pair.
Step 8: Outline and erase
Trace with a marker and erase the pencil.
Colouring Your Mushroom
Use red for the cap with white spots, and cream or pale yellow for the stem. Colour the underside light brown and the grass green.
Tips for Drawing a Mushroom
- Make the spots different sizes so the cap looks natural.
- Keep the stem a little thick. A thin stem makes it look like a lollipop.
