How to Draw a Bowl of Foxnuts (Makhana) — Easy Food Drawing for Kids
Foxnuts are a crunchy, healthy snack loved across India! Let's draw a bowl of these round popped seeds ready for snacking with Parikshet.
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White paper
- Black marker
- Cream, light brown, and orange coloured pencils
Step-by-Step: Drawing a Bowl of Foxnuts
Step 1: Draw the Bowl
Draw a wide U-shape for the bowl — curved bottom, flaring out toward the top. Add a flattened oval at the very top to show the open rim. Make it a deep bowl with thick walls.
Step 2: Draw Foxnuts Filling the Bowl
Draw round circles piled inside the bowl, starting at the bottom and stacking upward. Each foxnut is a simple ball shape — perfectly round with a tiny dimple on one side. Fill the bowl so they overflow slightly above the rim.
Step 3: Add Texture to Each Foxnut
On each round foxnut, add a small crescent shadow shape on one side to make each ball look three-dimensional.
Step 4: Draw Spice Coating
Add small dots and specks scattered over the foxnuts — these are the chaat masala spice coating. Some can have tiny flecks of green (dried herbs) and orange-red (spice powder).
Step 5: Add a Few Spilled Foxnuts
Draw three or four round foxnuts beside the bowl that have tumbled out. These loose ones make the drawing look playful and casual.
Step 6: Draw the Background Surface
Draw a flat surface line under the bowl to show a table. Add a folded napkin or a small chilli pepper beside the bowl for a fun detail.
Step 7: Outline with Marker
Outline the bowl and every foxnut in black marker. Make the bowl outline thicker and the foxnut details thinner.
Step 8: Colour
Colour the foxnuts cream-white with light golden-brown speckles. The bowl can be warm terracotta orange or plain white. Add light orange dust on the nuts to show the spice coating.
Colouring Tips
Keep foxnuts mostly cream-white — this is their natural colour. A light dusting of orange over the top layer shows the tangy spice coating. Shade the bottom of the bowl darker to show depth.
Parikshet's Tips
- All foxnuts should be roughly the same size — they're very uniform when popped.
- The spice coating dots make a simple drawing look instantly appetising.
- Practice every day and you'll get better!
