A cartoon ghost is one of the simplest and most satisfying drawings — flowing wavy edges, two oval eyes, and an 'O' mouth. Whether it is friendly or spooky depends entirely on the expression you give it. Parikshet shows you both versions.

🖍️ What You Need

  • Pencil and eraser
  • White paper
  • Black marker
  • Optional: light grey shading pencil

How to Draw a Ghost Step by Step

  1. Draw the head — a large round dome shape at the top.
  2. Add the wavy bottom — from the dome, draw flowing wavy lines going downward. A classic ghost has 3-4 waves at the base, like a flowing sheet.
  3. Draw the eyes — two large oval eyes. For a friendly ghost: filled ovals with white highlights. For a spooky ghost: empty hollow ovals.
  4. Add the mouth — a rounded 'O' shape for surprise/spooky, or a curve for a friendly smile.
  5. Optional arms — small wing-like arms floating outward from the sides.
  6. Add shading — light grey shading on one side of the ghost gives it a subtle 3D look even though it should look transparent.
  7. Add details — eyebrows raised for frightened, lowered and angled for spooky. Add small teardrops for a crying ghost.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: The wavy bottom is what makes a ghost look ghostly. Draw the waves going up and down with soft S-curves rather than sharp zigzags — smooth waves look more like floating fabric.
