How Perplexity Works
When you ask Perplexity a question, it:
- Searches the web in real time
- Reads multiple relevant pages
- Writes a clear answer that combines information from all of them
- Shows numbered citations [1] [2] [3] so you can click and check every claim
This is fundamentally different from ChatGPT, which answers from its training data (which has a knowledge cutoff) without showing sources.
The School Research Workflow
Step 1: Go to perplexity.ai (free, no account needed)
Step 2: Type your research question
Step 3: Read the answer AND check 1-2 sources by clicking the citations
Step 4: Click "Ask a follow-up" for any point you want to explore more
Step 5: Use the cited pages as your bibliography
