The Story

The library was Parikshet's favourite place in the whole town. Tall wooden shelves stretched up to the ceiling, packed with thousands of colourful books.

On his very first visit, he stood in the doorway and just stared. "Pick any book," said the kind librarian with a soft smile. "Any one at all. They are all waiting for someone like you."

Parikshet walked between the shelves. His fingers trailed along the spines. He stopped at a small book with a golden ship on the cover. "This one," he whispered.

He sat down in a soft beanbag and opened the book. The very first sentence said: "The sea wind whispered to the captain, 'Come find me.'" Parikshet's heart skipped.

Page by page, the library disappeared. He was on the ship, smelling salt water, watching the sails snap in the wind, sailing towards an unknown island.

When he finally closed the book, hours had passed. He blinked, looked around the quiet library, and smiled. He had just visited another world without ever leaving his seat. He could not wait to come back.
