How to Draw a Daily Sketch: The 6-Minute 100 Days Challenge for Kids

Grab your pencil and let's draw together with Parikshet — here's how to start the 100 Days Drawing Challenge with your very first daily sketch!

What You'll Need

  • Pencil (HB or 2B)
  • Eraser
  • White paper or a sketchbook
  • Black marker
  • Coloured pencils or crayons
  • A timer set to 6 minutes

Step-by-Step: Your First 6-Minute Challenge Sketch

Step 1: Set Your Timer (Minute 1)

Set a timer for 6 minutes. This challenge is about building the drawing habit, not making a perfect picture. For Day 1, we're drawing a simple house. Start with a square in the centre of your paper — press lightly so you can erase.

Step 2: Add the Roof (Minute 1–2)

On top of the square, draw a triangle for the roof. Make the triangle wide at the base (matching the square width) and pointing upward. The roof peak should be centred above the square.

Step 3: Draw the Door (Minute 2–3)

In the lower-centre of the square body, draw a rectangle for the door. Make it taller than it is wide. Round off the top of the rectangle slightly — this gives the door a classic arch shape. Add a small circle on the right side of the door for the doorknob.

Step 4: Add Two Windows (Minute 3–4)

On either side of the door, draw two square windows. Inside each window, draw a plus sign (+) dividing it into four panes. Add a small rectangular window ledge below each window.

Step 5: Add a Chimney (Minute 4)

On the roof, slightly to the right of centre, draw a small rectangular chimney poking up through the roofline. Draw a few wavy curved lines above the chimney for smoke.

Step 6: Outline and Add Ground (Minute 5)

Trace your main lines with a black marker. Draw a ground line below the house and add a few simple shapes for a garden — small circles for bushes, a simple tree trunk with a cloud-shaped top for a tree.

Step 7: Quick Colour (Minute 6)

In the last minute, quickly add colour: red for the roof, yellow for the walls, brown for the door, blue for the windows. Don't worry about staying perfectly inside the lines — it's a 6-minute sketch!

Challenge Tips for 100 Days

Each day, pick a new simple subject — a fruit, an animal, a vehicle, a face. Set the 6-minute timer and go. Your drawings will improve dramatically by Day 30, and by Day 100, you'll be amazed at the difference.

Parikshet's Tips

  • Skip a day and it gets harder to restart — draw even just 1 line on busy days to keep the streak alive.
  • Date each sketch so you can look back and see your progress.
  • Practice makes perfect!
