How to Draw the Worried Sad Emoji: Step-by-Step for Kids
Grab your pencil and let's draw together with Parikshet — the worried and sad emoji with the perfect expression of concern!
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White paper
- Black marker
- Coloured pencils or crayons (yellow, blue, black, white)
Step-by-Step: Drawing the Worried Sad Emoji
Step 1: Draw the Large Yellow Circle
In the centre of your paper, draw a large, smooth circle for the emoji face. Make it fill most of the paper. Press lightly with your pencil first so you can clean it up later.
Step 2: Draw the Frowning Mouth
In the lower half of the circle, draw the emoji's classic sad frown. It's an arc that curves downward — like a U shape flipped upside down. The frown should be moderately wide, not as extreme as the loudly crying emoji, but clearly unhappy.
Step 3: Draw the Worried Eyes
The worried emoji has specific eyes — they point downward slightly at the inner corners (toward the nose), but angle upward at the outer corners. Each eye is a slightly elongated oval, and the inner corner of each eye dips lower. This creates a worried, furrowed look.
Step 4: Add the Worried Eyebrows — The Key Detail
The eyebrows are what separate "worried" from just "sad." Draw two thick eyebrows that angle sharply upward in the middle — the inner ends of both eyebrows are raised high, while the outer ends angle downward. This creates the distinctive furrowed-brow worry expression. This is the most important step!
Step 5: Add a Single Sweat Drop
The worried emoji often has a single blue sweat drop on the side of the forehead. Draw one teardrop shape in the upper-right area of the face — pointed at the top, rounded at the bottom. This small detail adds enormous expressiveness to the face.
Step 6: Add Rosy Cheeks (Optional)
Below each eye, draw a soft oval for rosy cheeks — use very light pressure with a pink or light red pencil. This is common on emoji faces and adds warmth to the worried expression.
Step 7: Outline and Finalize
Trace all lines with a bold black marker. The eyebrows should be thick and prominent. The sweat drop outline should be clean. The frown should be a smooth, clean arc. Erase all pencil marks.
Colouring Your Worried Emoji
The face is bright yellow. The eyebrows are black and thick. The eyes have white sclera with black pupils and thin black outlines. The sweat drop is bright blue. If you added cheeks, colour them light pink or rose. The frown can be left as a black line or slightly darker yellow.
Parikshet's Tips
- The eyebrows are EVERYTHING for this emoji — spend extra time getting the inner-corner-raised shape right. Test it by looking in the mirror and furrowing your own worried brows.
- The blue sweat drop is a small detail but makes a big difference — it adds instant character and is very recognisable.
- Practice makes perfect!
