How to Turn the Number 1 into a Boat

  1. Write a tall number 1 — straight vertical line with a small flag-flick at the top, about half the page tall.
  2. Make it the mast — the vertical line of the 1 becomes the boat's mast.
  3. Add a sail — draw a triangle to one side of the mast, attached to it like a flag.
  4. Draw the boat's hull — a wide curved shape at the bottom of the mast, like a slice of orange.
  5. Add a deck line — a horizontal line across the top of the hull.
  6. Optional flag — a small triangle flag at the very top of the mast.
  7. Wavy water — a few wavy horizontal lines under the boat for sea.
  8. Ink and colour — brown hull, white or red sail, blue waves, yellow sun in the corner.
