How to Draw a Baby Kitten: Step-by-Step for Kids
A kitten looks cute because of its big head, huge eyes and tiny body. Draw those three things and your kitten will be adorable.
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White drawing paper
- Black marker for the outline
- Pink pencil for the nose and ears
- Coloured pencils or crayons
Step-by-Step: Drawing a Baby Kitten
Step 1: Draw the head
Draw a wide circle that is slightly flatter on top, like a soft cushion.
Step 2: Add the ears
On each top corner, draw a triangle with a rounded tip. Draw a smaller triangle inside each for the inner ear.
Step 3: Draw the eyes
Draw two large oval eyes low on the face and wide apart. Colour most of each eye dark and leave a white spot for a sparkle.
Step 4: Add the nose and mouth
Between the eyes, draw a tiny upside-down triangle. From it draw a short line down that splits into two little curves for the mouth.
Step 5: Draw the whiskers
On each cheek, draw three thin lines fanning outward.
Step 6: Draw the small body
Under the head, draw a small pear-shaped body. It should be much smaller than the head.
Step 7: Add paws and tail
Draw two little oval front paws at the bottom and a thin curved tail rising behind the body.
Step 8: Add fur and outline
Draw a few small stripes on the forehead and body, then trace with a marker and erase the pencil.
Colouring Your Baby Kitten
Orange tabby, grey, black or white all suit a kitten. Colour the inner ears and nose pink, and leave a bright highlight in each eye.
Tips for Drawing a Baby Kitten
- Place the eyes low on the face. The lower they sit, the younger the kitten looks.
- Keep the body tiny compared with the head.
