A colourful tree drawing is a brilliant way to learn about leaves, seasons and colour mixing. In this tutorial Parikshet shows you how to draw a friendly tree with a thick trunk, swirling branches and a bright bunch of multi-coloured leaves on top.

  • White A4 paper

  • Brown, red, orange, yellow, green and pink colour pencils or crayons

How to Draw a Colourful Tree Step by Step

  1. Step 1 — In the lower half of your page, draw two slightly curved lines moving upward and outward — these form the trunk.
  2. Step 2 — At the top of the trunk, split into 3 to 5 branches that curve up and out like fingers.
  3. Step 3 — Around the branches draw one big bumpy cloud shape — this is where all the leaves will sit.
  4. Step 4 — Inside the cloud, divide the area into smaller bumpy sections — each one will get a different leaf colour.
  5. Step 5 — At the base of the trunk, add a wavy ground line with a few tufts of grass.
  6. Step 6 — Outline the whole tree with a black marker and add a few simple lines on the trunk to show bark texture.
  7. Step 7 — Colour the trunk brown, going darker on one side to show shadow.
  8. Step 8 — Fill each leaf section with a different colour: red, orange, yellow, pink, green and even purple, blending where they meet.
