Step-by-Step: Drawing a Dog Face Drawing Tutorials
Step 1: Draw the Face Circle
Draw a large circle in the centre of your page — this is the dog's face. Make it nice and round.
Step 2: Add the Snout
At the lower centre of the circle, draw a smaller, wide oval that overlaps the bottom of the face. This is the dog's muzzle.
Step 3: Draw the Nose
At the top of the muzzle oval, draw a large rounded triangle for the nose. Make it slightly wider than tall, with a flat bottom. Add two tiny oval nostrils.
Step 4: Add the Mouth
From the bottom centre of the nose, draw a short straight line going down, then two curved lines going to each side to form a W-shape smile.
Step 5: Draw the Eyes
Above and on either side of the nose, draw two large oval eyes. Inside each eye, draw a slightly smaller oval (the iris), then a small circle (the pupil), then a tiny dot of white for the highlight.
Step 6: Add the Eyebrows
Above each eye, draw a short, thick curved line. Angle them slightly to give the dog a friendly, curious expression.
Step 7: Draw the Ears
On each side of the head at the top, draw long, floppy ear shapes that hang down past the face. They should curve outward at the top and narrow as they hang down.
Step 8: Add the Fur Texture
Draw short, light strokes all around the face, especially on the forehead, cheeks, and ears. Use different directions to show how fur grows.
Colouring Your Dog Face Drawing Tutorials
Use golden-brown, black, or white as your main fur colour. The muzzle area is often lighter than the rest. Eyes can be dark brown or amber. Add a tiny pink colour to the inside of the mouth.
Tips from Parikshet
- Floppy ears instantly make a dog look friendlier — don't draw them too stiff!
- Try moving the eyebrows — tilted inward makes the dog look worried, outward makes it look happy.
- Practice makes perfect — try drawing it again tomorrow!

What is the easiest way to start a dog face?
Start with one big rounded shape for the head, then add the floppy ears. Once the head shape is right, the eyes, nose and mouth all fit inside it easily.
How do I make my dog drawing look cute?
Make the eyes big and round, place them low on the face, add a small heart-shaped nose, and draw a happy smile with a little tongue. Big eyes and a smile make any dog look friendly.
Can I draw different dog breeds with this method?
Yes! Change the ears to pointy for a husky or German Shepherd, add spots for a Dalmatian, or keep them floppy for a Labrador or beagle. The basic head shape stays the same.
How long does it take to draw a dog face?
Most kids finish the outline in about 10 minutes, plus a few more minutes for colouring. With practice you can draw a dog face in under 5 minutes.
