Step-by-Step: Drawing a Dog

Step 1: Draw the Face Circle

Draw a large circle in the centre of your page — this is the dog's face. Make it nice and round.

Step 2: Add the Snout

At the lower centre of the circle, draw a smaller, wide oval that overlaps the bottom of the face. This is the dog's muzzle.

Step 3: Draw the Nose

At the top of the muzzle oval, draw a large rounded triangle for the nose. Make it slightly wider than tall, with a flat bottom. Add two tiny oval nostrils.

Step 4: Add the Mouth

From the bottom centre of the nose, draw a short straight line going down, then two curved lines going to each side to form a W-shape smile.

Step 5: Draw the Eyes

Above and on either side of the nose, draw two large oval eyes. Inside each eye, draw a slightly smaller oval (the iris), then a small circle (the pupil), then a tiny dot of white for the highlight.

Step 6: Add the Eyebrows

Above each eye, draw a short, thick curved line. Angle them slightly to give the dog a friendly, curious expression.

Step 7: Draw the Ears

On each side of the head at the top, draw long, floppy ear shapes that hang down past the face. They should curve outward at the top and narrow as they hang down.

Step 8: Add the Fur Texture

Draw short, light strokes all around the face, especially on the forehead, cheeks, and ears. Use different directions to show how fur grows.

Colouring Your Dog

Use golden-brown, black, or white as your main fur colour. The muzzle area is often lighter than the rest. Eyes can be dark brown or amber. Add a tiny pink colour to the inside of the mouth.
