How to Draw a Ghost — Easy and Fun for Kids
Ghosts are the easiest and most fun things to draw! Let's make a cute, friendly ghost floating in the night sky with Parikshet.
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White paper
- Black marker
- Light blue and grey coloured pencils
Step-by-Step: Drawing a Ghost
Step 1: Draw the Top Dome
Draw a large half-circle or dome shape at the top of your page. This is the round top of the ghost's head — make it nice and round like a balloon about to float away.
Step 2: Draw the Flowing Body
From the sides of the dome, draw two curved lines flowing downward and slightly outward. The body widens a little as it goes down, like a floating sheet.
Step 3: Draw the Wavy Bottom Hem
At the bottom of the ghost, draw three or four large wavy bumps alternating up and down. These wavy points make the ghost look like it's floating and fluttering.
Step 4: Draw the Eyes
In the upper portion of the ghost body, draw two large oval eyes. Make them simple, round, and friendly — big black pupils with small white shine spots.
Step 5: Draw the Mouth
Below the eyes, draw a simple wide curved smile or an O-shaped open mouth. For a friendly ghost, a wide curved smile works perfectly.
Step 6: Add Floating Arms
Draw two stubby rounded arm shapes sticking out from the sides of the body — they float upward slightly, like the ghost is reaching out to say hello!
Step 7: Add Stars and Background
Draw small 4-pointed and 6-pointed stars scattered around the ghost. Add a crescent moon in one corner. A few bat M-shapes complete the Halloween atmosphere.
Step 8: Outline and Colour
Outline the ghost in black marker. Colour it very light blue or leave it white with subtle grey shading on the sides. Colour the background dark navy or black. Stars in yellow, moon in pale yellow-white.
Colouring Tips
A white ghost on a dark background looks most dramatic. Use a dark navy background and leave the ghost almost completely white — just light grey on the very edges to suggest the shape.
Parikshet's Tips
- The wavy bottom hem is the one shape that immediately says "ghost" — practice those bumps!
- Dark background makes your white ghost pop dramatically off the page.
- Practice every day and you'll get better!
