A garbage truck (rubbish lorry) is a favourite machine for many children — the big truck that collects bins and crushes the rubbish inside. With its boxy body and lifting arms, it's a satisfying vehicle to draw. Parikshet shows you how to draw a garbage truck step by step.

🖍️ What You Need

  • Pencil and eraser
  • Ruler
  • Green or blue markers
  • Black for the wheels, grey for the body
  • Black pen for outlines

How to Draw a Garbage Truck Step by Step

  1. Draw the truck cab — a boxy cab at the front with a large windscreen and a side window.
  2. Add the big collection body — a large rectangular container behind the cab, where the rubbish is stored and crushed. This is the biggest part.
  3. Draw the wheels — several large black wheels under the truck (garbage trucks are heavy, so they have lots of wheels).
  4. Add the loading arm or hopper — at the back (or side), draw the mechanism that lifts and tips the bins — a hopper opening or mechanical lifting arms.
  5. Draw a wheelie bin — a bin beside the truck being lifted or emptied, to show what the truck does.
  6. Add details — warning lights on top, a 'RECYCLING' or council label on the side, and panel lines.
  7. Add safety stripes — hazard stripes (diagonal lines) on the back for visibility.
  8. Colour — green, blue, or white body (council colours vary), black wheels, yellow warning lights and stripes.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: The big rectangular collection container behind the cab is what makes this a garbage truck — make it large and boxy, clearly bigger than the cab. Adding a wheelie bin being lifted beside it instantly shows what the truck does, making it unmistakable.

🌟 Did You Know?

A modern garbage truck can crush rubbish to a fraction of its original size using a powerful hydraulic 'packer' inside, so it can carry far more in one trip — some can carry the rubbish of over 800 homes! Garbage trucks do one of the most important jobs in any town, keeping streets clean and taking rubbish to be recycled or safely disposed of. Many now run on cleaner electric or gas power.

Garbage Truck Key Parts

  • The cab — where the driver sits
  • The big collection body — stores and crushes the rubbish
  • Loading mechanism — lifts and tips the bins
  • Lots of wheels — to carry the heavy load

🎯 Try This: Draw a Recycling Scene

  1. Draw your garbage truck collecting bins on a street.
  2. Add different coloured bins (recycling, general waste, garden).
  3. Draw a worker guiding a bin into the truck.
  4. Add houses and a clean street in the background.
