How to Draw a French Fries: Step-by-Step for Kids
French fries are just long, thin rectangles poking out of a carton. The mix of different heights is what makes the fries look real.
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White drawing paper
- Black marker for the outline
- Red and yellow colours
- Coloured pencils or crayons
Step-by-Step: Drawing a French Fries
Step 1: Draw the carton
Draw a wide trapezoid, wider at the top than at the bottom. This is the fry carton.
Step 2: Add the scooped top
Draw the top edge as a dip, lower in the middle and higher on each side, like a wide smile.
Step 3: Draw the fries
Above the carton, draw eight to ten long thin rectangles. Make them different heights and let some lean left and right.
Step 4: Overlap the fries
Let some fries sit in front of others. Erase the lines that would be hidden.
Step 5: Add the fry ends
Add small angled ends on the tops of the fries to show they are cut at slightly different angles.
Step 6: Add a face
On the carton, draw two dots for eyes and a curved smile.
Step 7: Add stripes or a logo
Draw a stripe across the carton or a big letter shape to make it look like a takeaway carton.
Step 8: Outline and erase
Trace with a marker and erase the guide lines.
Colouring Your French Fries
Colour the carton bright red with a yellow stripe. Use a golden yellow for the fries with a slightly darker yellow-orange on one edge. Tiny brown dots add a crispy look.
Tips for Drawing a French Fries
- Vary the heights of the fries. If they are all the same size, the drawing looks flat.
- Draw a few small salt dots for detail.
