How to Draw a Hot Dog Step by Step
- Draw a long oval shape across the middle of your paper — this is the bun.
- Add a curved line along the top of the oval to give the bun a soft rounded top.
- Inside the bun, draw a slightly smaller, longer oval for the sausage. It should peek out at both ends.
- On top of the sausage, draw a wiggly squiggle from one end to the other — that is the mustard or ketchup.
- Add small dotted texture marks on the bun to make it look like baked bread.
- Sketch tiny shine highlights on the sausage to make it look juicy.
- Outline the whole hot dog with your fine-liner and rub out the pencil lines.
- Colour the bun golden brown, the sausage reddish brown, and the squiggle bright yellow for mustard or red for ketchup.
🌟 Did You Know?
Hot dogs were brought to America by German immigrants in the 1800s, and the famous bun was added later to make them easier to eat without a knife and fork.
Tips for a Tasty Hot Dog Drawing
- Use two shades of brown for the bun — lighter on top, darker underneath.
- Add tiny seeds on the bun if you want a sesame style.
- Draw a face on the hot dog to turn it into a cartoon character.
- Add steam lines above to show it is fresh and hot.
🎯 Try This Mini Challenge
- Draw a hot dog with arms and legs running away from a giant bottle of ketchup.
- Add a funny facial expression — scared or happy.

- Share it with a friend or stick it on the fridge.
