A lightsaber is one of the most recognisable objects in science fiction — a glowing energy blade with a detailed metal handle. Parikshet breaks down the handle construction and the glowing blade effect into simple, learnable steps.

🖍️ What You Need

  • Pencil and eraser
  • Black and silver/grey markers for the handle
  • Blue, green, or red marker for the blade
  • Optional: white gel pen for the glow highlight

How to Draw a Lightsaber Step by Step

  1. Draw the handle base — a cylinder shape about 3cm long. The handle is slightly wider at the bottom.
  2. Add the emitter — at the top of the handle, add a slightly flared or ridged section where the blade emerges.
  3. Detail the grip — add horizontal bands or ridges along the handle for grip texture.
  4. Add the pommel — a rounded or flat cap at the base of the handle with a small circular detail.
  5. Draw the blade — a long, slightly tapered rectangle extending from the emitter. The blade is narrower at the tip.
  6. Create the glow effect — colour the blade edge in the main colour. Add a lighter shade or white along the centre of the blade.
  7. Finish the handle — grey and black for the metal parts, with small silver buttons or switches.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: The glowing effect is the hardest part to get right. Try colouring the very centre of the blade with white or leaving it blank, then build the full colour outward toward the edges. This gradient screams 'glow'.
