- Eraser
- White drawing paper
- Black marker for the outline
- Ruler (optional)
- Light blue and green pencils
- Coloured pencils or crayons
Step-by-Step: Drawing a Taj Mahal
Step 1: Draw a centre line and the base
Draw a very light vertical line down the middle of the page. Draw a wide flat rectangle across the bottom for the platform.
Step 2: Draw the main building
On the platform, draw a large rectangle centred on the line.
Step 3: Add the central arch
In the middle of the rectangle, draw a tall pointed arch. Add a smaller arch on each side.
Step 4: Draw the main dome
On top of the building, draw a large onion-shaped dome that is wider in the middle. Add a thin spire on top.
Step 5: Add the small domes
On each side of the main dome, draw a smaller dome on a short base.
Step 6: Draw the four minarets
At the outer corners, draw four tall thin towers. Give each a small domed cap.
Step 7: Add the reflecting pool
In front, draw a long narrow rectangle in perspective, wider at the bottom, with a few straight lines across.
Step 8: Outline and erase
Trace with a marker and erase the centre line and the guide lines.
Colouring Your Taj Mahal
Leave the building white or a very pale cream, with light grey shading on one side. The sky is light blue, the garden is green and the reflecting pool is blue.
Tips for Drawing a Taj Mahal
- Check both sides match. Fold the page in half to see if the halves line up.
- The minarets should all be the same height. Use a ruler if you can.
