Finger painting is a school art activity where kids use their fingertips dipped in paint to create patterns, animals or scenes without using a brush. It is brilliant for sensory learning and helps young children explore colours and textures. A simple finger painting takes about fifteen minutes.
🎨 What You Need
- Thick white paper or card
- Washable poster paints in 4 to 6 colours
- Small plates or a paint palette
- A bowl of water and old towel for cleaning hands
- An apron or old t-shirt
How to Do a School Finger Painting
- Cover your work area with newspaper and put on your apron to keep clothes clean.
- Squeeze small dollops of paint onto a plate, keeping colours separate.
- Dip your index finger into the first colour and press it firmly onto the paper.
- Make rows of fingertip dots in different colours to practise the technique.
- Try a finger-print tree by stamping a brown trunk with your thumb and green leaves with your fingertips.
- Use your whole fingertip in a swiping motion to draw petals for finger-print flowers.
- Wash hands between colours so the paints stay bright and do not turn muddy.
- Let the painting dry flat for at least one hour before adding details with a black marker.
