How to Draw a Car the Simple Way: Step-by-Step for Kids

Grab your pencil and let's draw together with Parikshet — the simplest method to draw a car that actually looks like a car!

What You'll Need

  • Pencil (HB or 2B)
  • Eraser
  • White paper
  • Black marker
  • Coloured pencils or crayons (red, black, grey, yellow, blue)

Step-by-Step: Drawing a Simple Car

Step 1: Draw a Long Low Rectangle

In the middle of your paper, draw a wide, flat rectangle — about 12 cm wide and only 4 cm tall. This is the base of the car body. Press lightly with your pencil.

Step 2: Round the Bottom Corners

Soften the two bottom corners of the rectangle — curve them slightly instead of leaving them sharp. This makes the car look smoother and more modern.

Step 3: Add the Car Roof

On top of the rectangle, in the centre area, draw a smaller, shorter rounded shape for the cabin/roof. The left edge slopes upward from the bonnet (hood) area and the right edge slopes down to the boot (trunk). Round the top corners of the roof shape.

Step 4: Draw Two Wheel Arches

In the lower part of the car body rectangle, cut out two curved wheel arch shapes — one near the front and one near the back. These are semicircular cutouts at the bottom edge of the body.

Step 5: Draw the Wheels

Inside each wheel arch, draw a large circle for the tyre. The circle should fit inside the arch with a small gap all around. Inside each tyre circle, draw a smaller circle for the hubcap and 4 short spokes from the centre.

Step 6: Add Windows

Inside the roof area, draw two or three trapezoid window shapes separated by thin pillar lines. Angle the front window (windscreen) slightly and the rear window slightly too — they're never perfectly vertical on real cars.

Step 7: Add Headlights and a Bumper

At the front of the car, draw a small horizontal rectangle for the headlight. Below it, draw a thin rectangle for the bumper. At the back, add a small rectangle for the tail light.

Colouring Your Car

Colour the car body in a bright colour — red is classic. The windows should be light blue with a white diagonal shine line. Tyres are black with grey hubcaps. Add a yellow headlight glow at the front and a red glow for the tail lights.

Parikshet's Tips

  • The wheel arches are the key to making a car look realistic — don't skip them and place your wheels inside them correctly.
  • Angling the windscreen slightly makes a huge difference — a perfectly vertical windscreen looks like a box, not a car.
  • Practice makes perfect!
