💡 Perfect if you're thinking...
A prompt is the instruction or question you give to an AI. It's how you communicate with AI tools like ChatGPT. The words you type, the way you phrase them, how much context you give — all of this shapes what the AI gives back to you. Learning to write good prompts is, right now, one of the most useful skills you can develop.
I'm Parikshet, and prompt engineering — the art of writing good prompts — is what I teach most at KidsFunLearnClub. I created the SUPER Prompt Formula specifically for kids. Let me start from the very beginning.
Why the Same AI Can Give Totally Different Answers
Here's something that surprises people: if you ask ChatGPT the same question in two different ways, you can get very different answers. Not slightly different — genuinely different in quality, format, and usefulness.
Try this: ask "Tell me about the solar system." Then ask "I'm 11 years old and I have a science test tomorrow on the solar system. Give me the 5 most important facts I should know, in a numbered list, in simple language."
The first prompt will get you a general overview. The second will get you exactly what you asked for. Same AI, same "intelligence," completely different result — because of how the question was written.
This is why prompt engineering matters. The AI isn't reading your mind. It's responding to exactly what you wrote.
The Anatomy of a Good Prompt
A good prompt usually has several elements:
Context — who you are: "I'm a beginner" vs "I'm learning advanced maths" changes the level of explanation completely.
The actual task: What specifically do you want? Explain X? Write Y? List Z? The more specific the task, the more useful the answer.
Format instructions: "Give me a numbered list" vs "write a paragraph" vs "create a table." Telling AI the format you want saves you from getting a wall of text when you wanted bullet points.
Constraints: "In under 100 words" or "for a 7-year-old" or "without using technical terms." Constraints help the AI stay focused.
Examples (when helpful): Showing the AI one example of the kind of response you want dramatically improves quality. This is called "few-shot prompting" and it's used by professionals who work with AI systems.
Prompt Engineering Is Already a Job
In 2023, companies started hiring "prompt engineers" — people whose job is to write really good instructions for AI systems. They were paying those people significant salaries. Because the same AI model, given different prompts, produces results ranging from useless to genuinely impressive.
That job is changing as AI gets better at understanding imperfect prompts. But the underlying skill — knowing how to communicate precisely with AI to get what you need — isn't going away. It's becoming more important, not less, as AI tools become more powerful.
The UAE government's 1 Million Prompters initiative — which I completed at age 10–11 — was built on this insight: that AI prompting is a fundamental digital literacy skill, not an advanced technical topic. Every person who interacts with AI benefits from knowing how to do it well.
My SUPER Formula for Prompts
After testing hundreds of prompts and thinking about what consistently works, I developed the SUPER formula:
S — Specific: Make your question as specific as possible. "Explain Minecraft" → "Explain how to find diamonds in Minecraft 1.21 Survival mode."
U — Unique (your situation): Tell the AI who you are. Your age, skill level, what you already know, what you're trying to do.
P — Precise (format): Tell the AI what format you want the answer in. Numbered list? Short paragraphs? Step-by-step guide?
E — Example: If you have an example of a good answer, include it. "Like this kind of explanation: [example]."
R — Result: Tell the AI what you'll use the answer for and what success looks like. "I'll use this to explain it to my younger sister, so keep it very simple."
You don't always need all five. Sometimes a clear, specific question with your situation and format is enough. But running through SUPER before you send any important prompt will consistently improve your results.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a prompt in AI?
A prompt is the instruction or question you give to an AI tool. The words, context, and structure of your prompt determine the quality of the AI's response.
What is prompt engineering?
The skill of writing effective prompts to get the best possible results from AI tools. It became a recognised skill and job title from 2023 onwards.
What is the SUPER Prompt Formula?
A 5-element framework developed by Parikshet More for writing effective AI prompts: Specific, Unique (your situation), Precise (format), Example-based, Result-focused.
Why do different prompts give different answers from the same AI?
Because AI responds to the exact words and context in your prompt. More specific, contextual prompts give the AI more to work with, resulting in more relevant and useful responses.
