How to Draw a Cupcake Step by Step

  1. Draw the case — a trapezium (wider at top, narrower at bottom), about the size of a matchbox.
  2. Add vertical lines — five or six straight lines down the case to make the paper ridges.
  3. Top line — draw a wavy horizontal line along the top of the case where the cake meets the case.
  4. Swirl the icing — start at the bottom-left of the cake top and draw an upward spiral, getting smaller, ending in a peak.
  5. Cherry on top — a small circle at the peak, with a tiny curved stem.
  6. Sprinkles — dot tiny ovals over the icing in different directions.
  7. Ink the outline — fineliner over the pencil, rub out the pencil marks.
  8. Colour — pink icing, brown case, red cherry, green stem, rainbow sprinkles.
