How to Draw Doraemon: Easy Step-by-Step for Kids

Doraemon is one of the most beloved cartoon characters in Asia — the robotic cat from the future with a magical pocket! Here is how to draw him step by step.

What You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper
  • Blue, white, and red markers

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Draw the Big Round Head

Draw a very large circle for Doraemon's head — it is enormous compared to his body. This circle should take up about half the total drawing area.

Step 2: Add the Face Circle

Inside the head circle, draw a slightly smaller circle offset toward the lower portion — this is Doraemon's white face area. The top blue part of the head shows above and around this inner circle.

Step 3: Draw the Eyes

Near the top of the white face circle, draw two very large oval eyes side by side. Add small dot pupils in the centre of each. Doraemon has big, simple, friendly oval eyes.

Step 4: Draw the Nose

Between and just below the eyes, draw a large red circle for Doraemon's nose. This big red round nose is one of his most recognisable features.

Step 5: Add the Mouth and Whiskers

Below the nose, draw a wide curved smile opening into an oval shape. Below the smile, add three long whisker lines extending to each side — six whiskers total, three on each side of the face.

Step 6: Draw the Bell and Collar

Below the head, draw a wide collar band going across the neck area. In the centre of the collar, draw a small circle for the golden bell that hangs from Doraemon's collar.

Step 7: Draw the Round Body and Pocket

Below the collar, draw a large round body — almost as wide as the head. In the centre of the belly, draw a large oval shape — this is Doraemon's iconic four-dimensional pocket where all his gadgets come from!

Step 8: Add Arms, Legs, and Tail

Draw two round arm stubs on each side of the body with small oval hands (Doraemon has no fingers). Below the body, add two round leg stubs with small oval feet. At the back, draw a short thin tail with a small curl at the tip.

Adding Colour

Doraemon's head (the non-face part) and body are bright blue. The face area, belly, hands, and feet are white. The nose and collar are red. The bell is gold or yellow. The pocket outline is white on the blue belly.

Tips from Parikshet

  • The large red nose is absolutely central to Doraemon's look — make it prominent and perfectly round.
  • Doraemon has no ears — they were bitten off by a mouse and he cried blue tears that changed his colour from yellow to blue!
  • The four-dimensional pocket on the belly should be clearly visible as a large oval — all of Doraemon's magic comes from it.
