How to Draw an Ice Cream Cone: Step-by-Step for Kids
An ice cream cone is a triangle topped with round scoops. The wafer pattern, the drips and the cherry are the details that make it look delicious.
What You'll Need
- Pencil (HB or 2B)
- Eraser
- White drawing paper
- Black marker for the outline
- Brown, pink and cream colours
- Coloured pencils or crayons
Step-by-Step: Drawing an Ice Cream Cone
Step 1: Draw the cone
Draw a long triangle pointing downward. Make the top edge a straight line.
Step 2: Add the waffle pattern
Draw diagonal lines going one way across the cone, then cross them with diagonal lines going the other way to make small diamonds.
Step 3: Draw the first scoop
On top of the cone, draw a big circle that is wider than the cone opening. It should overlap the top edge.
Step 4: Add the drips
Where the scoop meets the cone, draw a wavy scalloped line so the ice cream looks like it is melting over the edge.
Step 5: Add a second scoop
On top of the first scoop, draw a slightly smaller circle in another colour.
Step 6: Add the cherry
On the very top, draw a small circle with a short curved stem.
Step 7: Add sprinkles
Scatter short little lines in different directions over the top scoop.
Step 8: Outline and erase
Trace with a marker and erase the pencil.
Colouring Your Ice Cream Cone
Use light brown for the cone with darker brown lines in the waffle pattern. Choose different colours for each scoop, such as pink strawberry and brown chocolate, and red for the cherry. Bright sprinkles finish it.
Tips for Drawing an Ice Cream Cone
- Draw the scoop wider than the cone. That overhang is what makes it look real.
- Leave a small white highlight on each scoop and a shine on the cherry.
