Steve is the default hero of Minecraft — the blocky, pixelated adventurer that millions of players have explored worlds as. Because everything in Minecraft is made of cubes, Steve is one of the easiest characters to draw accurately: it is all rectangles and squares! Parikshet shows you how step by step.

🖍️ What You Need

  • Pencil and eraser
  • Ruler (for clean straight edges)
  • Cyan/teal marker for the shirt
  • Blue for the trousers, brown for hair
  • Black pen for outlines

How to Draw Minecraft Steve Step by Step

  1. Draw the head — a square. Minecraft characters have perfectly cubic heads, so use a ruler for clean edges.
  2. Add the pixelated face — Steve's face is made of pixel blocks: two eyes (white with purple-blue pixels), a simple nose made of a few darker pixels, and a straight mouth. Draw these as small squares.
  3. Draw the hair — Steve's brown hair sits across the top and sides of the head as blocky pixel sections.
  4. Add the body — a tall rectangle below the head for the torso, in his classic cyan/teal shirt.
  5. Draw the arms — two narrow rectangles, one on each side of the body. Keep them straight and blocky.
  6. Add the legs — two rectangles below the body in blue trousers.
  7. Keep everything blocky — no curves anywhere! Every part of Steve is a rectangle or square. This is the whole Minecraft aesthetic.
  8. Colour — teal shirt, blue trousers, brown hair, skin-tone face and hands, with the pixel-block face details.
💡 Parikshet's Tip: The golden rule for drawing anything Minecraft: NO CURVES. Every single shape is a square or rectangle, and a ruler is your best friend. If you find yourself drawing a curved line, straighten it into blocky edges — the pixelated, cubic look is the entire Minecraft style.

🌟 Did You Know?

Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, with over 300 million copies sold. It was created by Markus 'Notch' Persson and released in 2011. The entire game world is made of cubic blocks, which players mine and build with — there are almost no curves anywhere in Minecraft. This blocky style was partly a creative choice and partly because simple cube shapes were easy to generate endlessly to build vast worlds.

The Minecraft Drawing Rule: Everything is Blocks

  • Cubic head — a perfect square, ruler-straight
  • Pixel face — eyes, nose, mouth as small squares
  • Rectangular limbs — straight narrow rectangles
  • No curves anywhere — the entire Minecraft aesthetic

  2. Add Minecraft blocks around him: a grass block (green top, brown sides), a tree, and a pickaxe (also blocky!).
  3. Draw a Creeper (the green block monster) in the background.
  4. Keep absolutely everything made of squares and rectangles.
