How to Draw a Cartoon Tiger Cub: Step-by-Step for Kids

Tiger cubs are fierce and fluffy at the same time — here is how to draw an adorable cartoon tiger cub with bold stripes and big eyes!

What You'll Need

  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Paper
  • Orange, black, and white markers

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Draw the Round Head

Draw a large circle for the tiger cub's head. Cartoon tiger cubs have big, round, fluffy-looking heads. Make it nice and circular.

Step 2: Add the Small Round Ears

At the top of the head, draw two small round ears (not as pointed as adult tigers). Inside each ear, add a smaller triangle for the inner ear.

Step 3: Draw the Big Eyes

In the upper middle of the face, draw two large oval eyes. Add round pupils and white highlight dots. Big eyes make the cub look young and playful rather than scary.

Step 4: Draw the Muzzle and Nose

Draw a wide muzzle area — a slightly rounded rectangle in the lower centre of the face, lighter than the surrounding orange. Add an upside-down triangle nose at the top of the muzzle and a curved W-shaped mouth below.

Step 5: Add Tiger Stripe Face Markings

Draw dark stripes on the forehead — three lines running from the top of the head toward the eyes, slightly curved. Add two cheek stripes on each side of the face fanning outward from the muzzle.

Step 6: Draw the Chubby Body

Below the head, draw a small, round, chubby body — tiger cubs are very compact and pudgy. Add a white or cream-coloured belly area in the centre front of the body.

Step 7: Add Legs and Paws

Draw four short, thick legs with large, round paws. Tiger cub paws are big relative to their bodies — they will grow into them! Add small claw marks on each paw.

Step 8: Draw the Striped Tail

Draw a long tail curling around from behind. Add alternating dark and light ring stripes along the length of the tail. End with a slightly fluffy tip.

Adding Colour

The body is bright orange. The stripes and nose are black. The muzzle, inner ears, and belly are white or cream. The eyes can be golden yellow or bright green. Use black for all stripe markings.

Tips from Parikshet

  • Tiger stripes follow the body shape — on the face they fan outward from the centre, on the body they wrap around the sides.
  • Big paws relative to the body are the key cub feature — they look like they are still growing into their feet!
  • Keep the face expression cute, not fierce — wide eyes and a small smile make a cub, not an adult tiger.
