How to Draw Naruto Uzumaki: Step-by-Step for Kids
Naruto Uzumaki is one of the most iconic anime heroes of all time — with his spiky blonde hair, whisker marks, and never-give-up attitude. Here is how to draw the future Hokage!
What You'll Need
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Paper
- Yellow, orange, and black markers
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Draw the Round Head
Draw a circle for Naruto's head. His face is round and youthful — he is a child/teen through most of the series. Add a slightly pointed chin at the bottom of the circle.
Step 2: Draw the Spiky Hair
On top of and around the head, draw Naruto's signature blonde spiky hair. The spikes radiate outward in multiple directions — upward on top and slightly to the sides. Each spike is thick at the base and comes to a clean point.
Step 3: Add the Leaf Village Headband
Across Naruto's forehead, draw his metal headband with the Konoha leaf symbol on it — a circle with a leaf design embossed in the centre, held by a flat metal plate with ties going around the head.
Step 4: Draw the Eyes
Draw large, bright eyes in the lower half of the face. Naruto has round, expressive eyes — usually shown with determination or excitement. Add small shine highlights in each eye.
Step 5: Add the Whisker Marks
Draw Naruto's three whisker marks on each cheek — six total, three on each side of his face, extending outward from the cheek area. These marks come from the Nine-Tails fox sealed inside him at birth and are one of his most recognisable features.
Step 6: Add the Nose and Smile
Draw a small button nose and Naruto's wide, confident grin. Naruto almost always has an energetic, slightly goofy smile. Show some teeth for his characteristic determined or excited expression.
Step 7: Draw the Orange Tracksuit
Below the head, draw the collar of Naruto's orange tracksuit. Add orange jacket panels with blue shoulders (classic Part 1 design) or the orange-black jacket (Part 2/Shippuden). Show the front zip or buttons.
Step 8: Add the Ninja Gear
Add a kunai holster on the leg, ninja pouches, and sandal tops if drawing below the waist. The ninja equipment completes the look and immediately reads as "shinobi."
Adding Colour
Naruto's hair is bright yellow-blonde. His tracksuit is vivid orange with blue accents (Part 1) or orange with black accents (Shippuden). The headband metal is silver. The whisker marks are the same warm brown as the outline.
Tips from Parikshet
- The whisker marks are as important as the hair — three marks per side, extending outward from the cheeks, is what makes it instantly Naruto.
- The spiky hair should look like actual spikes with clear points, not just messy scribbles.
- Drawing his signature thumbs-up or running pose with a huge grin captures Naruto's energetic spirit better than a static pose.
